If you haven’t read Steven Johnson’s Everything Bad is Good For You, you should. He makes a very interesting case for the idea that popular culture makes you smarter. I think he is wrong. Reading and interacting with other humans makes you more intelligent, which is not the same as smarter. He admits this in the passage following page 185 (in the paperback edition). So get going. |
